Meet your videographer

Hey there! I’m Matthew, and I absolutely love getting to take care of brides and grooms as they approach the altar together on their wedding day!

I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, making home videos with my little brother about our cat, Pokemon, and The Office parodies - probably like a lot of kids my age (if I can say that as a 28-year-old). But I would say my gift of storytelling and filmmaking comes from 1. rigorously studying the technical aspects of cinema since I was a preteen, and 2. knowing what it is like to be fully loved and known by another person, namely my Heavenly Father.

I started doing Catholic wedding videography for others in Ohio because Catholic wedding videos, I have noticed, are lacking that certain individuality, that meaningfulness unique to you.

As a married Catholic myself, my wedding video that my friend recorded with church equipment has not been watched for more than a few minutes since Katie and I got married. It just doesn’t mean anything to me because the humanity, the heart, is missing from it - just a bunch of wide shots where you can barely see our faces and the Mass audio is harsh and buzzy picking up more of the distractions than the focus.

If I was to describe myself in five attributes, I would say I am

  1. carefree

  2. inquisitive

  3. intentional

  4. perceptive of others’ gifts

  5. entirely focused on Jesus

Marriage is a continuous yes and it takes cooperation with the grace given. Our human condition causes us to forget even the most important things and quickly supplant them with wounded outlooks towards others, and that’s even true with my spouse. I want to remember my heart on the wedding day more than get a bunch of gorgeous shots or funny moments.

Looking back on our wedding five years later, these three things summarize what I wished I would have had in my wedding video:

  1. More than a montage of thrilling footage, I want to walk through the day on video and see how I approached and reacted to it as the day progressed.

  2. I want to remember how much I loved Katie, the words I spoke to her, how I spoke them to her, the why that brought us to the wedding day.

  3. I want to remember our relationship’s story. Not just for my sake but for the sake of my children’s children to know the love of Jesus through my marriage with Katie.

So that’s what I offer brides and grooms-to-be now! I’m all about crafting stories with meaning because if a viewer can bring his own experience into the plot, he can begin a process of growth and healing.

For all your stories, from weddings to delivering newborns to witnessing a graduation, I want to show you how God sees you, because He knows how good you are. How else would you want to remember your life except through Jesus’ merciful eyes?
